About Us

Heart of Birmingham Teaching Primary Care Trust is part of the Birmingham and Solihull NHS Cluster.

Birmingham is England's second city with a very diverse population of around one million people. Heart of Birmingham Teaching Primary Care Trust is located in the centre of Birmingham and provides healthcare services for around 300,000 people in the wards of Aston, Handsworth Wood, Ladywood, Lozells & East Handsworth, Nechells, Oscott, Perry Barr, Soho, Sparkbrook and Springfield.

Our area includes some of the poorest, most deprived neighbourhoods as well as the affluent, virbant shopping and business districts in the city centre. The heart of Birmingham has one of the youngest populations in the country, and is constantly evolving in terms of health needs.

We plan and buy health services from a range of organisations such as hospitals as well as providing some community healthcare services directly with over 800 community healthcare staff. We also manage healthcare services from dentists, doctors, opticians, pharmacists and urgent and emergency care as well as specialist services like mental health and sexual health, for our population.

We use the latest health information to ensure that we are delivering the right care to our residents as close to their home as possible.

Seven out of ten of the people in our patch are Black or Asian and, as a PCT, we pride ourselves on being as diverse as the population we serve. Our staff work here because they want to make a difference; they want to tackle social injustice, and they are committed to improving healthcare.

HoBTPCT is a ‘teaching’ PCT because we believe that learning is part of the job – and a good way of retaining good employees. This is why we offer on-going education and training to all our staff.
