Getting involved

If you want to influence the way health services in the heart of Birmingham are delivered, then we encourage you to get involved.
We are committed to involving you in the planning of new services for the area and want to hear your thoughts and views on the health care needs of the local population.

Patient and Public involvement

The Patient and Public Involvement team work with local communities to help improve the services provided by the PCT. There are different ways to get involved and influence decisions made by the PCT including:

Patient Networks

Patient Networks have been established since 2006 within our localities. They are regular meetings held in public chaired by patients independent from the PCT and they are attended by other patients, local residents, community groups, elected members, local GP practices and council Neighbourhood Managers. They also hold and support annual public events in their respective localities to engage with members of the community not attracted to attending meetings. Their main focus is to promote the improvement of patient experience of services provided in each locality as well as act as an effective local mechanism for consultation, involvement and feedback.

Sadie Evans, an 86 year old patient and resident in Balsall Heath who attends the Balsall Heath Patient Network said: “I would like to thank you so much for getting me involved with the different meetings. It has made me feel I can give something back and I am not too old to learn different things …. Attending these meetings has made visiting the doctors surgery so much more comfortable.”

Patient Participation Groups (PPG)

A PPG is a local service user involvement group for a GP Practice or any other local health service. This is a group where patients and their carers get together to offer feedback and ideas on improving the practice and services. By having regular meetings, coffee mornings/evenings and events the PPG work closely with the Practice or Head of Service to make sure Patients voices are heard.
