Quality of Care

header_collage1_712x165

One of the key responsibilities of the PCT is to ensure that the health services provided are of a high quality. We do this through our clinical governance systems.

These systems cover both services provided directly by us and services we commission. Directly provided services include community nursing and health visiting services. Commissioned services include services provided by hospitals, nursing homes, the voluntary sector, general practitioners, dentists, opticians and community pharmacists.

All NHS services have to meet core NHS standards, developed by the Department of Health and monitored by the Healthcare commission. For more view details about Standards and Criteria on the Healthcare Commission website

Our clinical governance systems use a number of approaches to ensure that all aspects of the quality of care are addressed and our standards are constantly improved.

We act on complaints and comments from the public about their experiences.

We ensure that there are appropriate clinical standards and policies and monitor adherence to them

We have comprehensive risk management systems to keep patients, the public and staff safe.

We keep up to date with the latest research and development.

We ensure that our staff are appropriately trained

We act on external reviews of our performance, especially those of the healthcare commission
